LA-E DAR’s new board is sworn in at the May Awards Luncheon! Stephane (Regent), Kathleen, Tracy, Ruth, Jodi, Dawn, Jan, Nancy, Carolyn (not present: Sarah, Melissa).

Caring about each other and our community is what makes our LA – E chapter so great. In the past year, so many, many volunteer hours have been spent on worthwhile projects ranging from JROTC, to veterans, to communication though social media. I sincerely want to thank everyone who has volunteered in service to support our DAR objectives and goals! You are special women.

While we do not serve to receive recognition, it is rewarding to see our chapter’s efforts receive awards in many categories from the California State Society DAR. During our recent May Awards Luncheon at the Wilshire Country Club, we highlighted some of these accomplishments and celebrated the individuals who helped make them possible. Thanks to the many volunteer efforts of our members, we have reached many in our communities and formed meaningful partnerships.

Lyn Cohen with Regent Stephanie Boyd. We recieved California State Society of the NSDAR Special Recognition for Commerative Events 9.11 Commemoration: “United We Plant” Partnership thanks to Lyn’s leadership.

We were also pleased to support the activities of the C.A.R. in cooperation with the leadership of Marion Buxton. We are happy to provide a platform for the LA-E C.A.R. activities and are proud of their accomplishments. In particular this year, several students won both state and national awards, with stars emerging from the Buxton Family. Well done! And special thanks to Sol Buxton for sharing with us his award winning essay about his project to collect shoes for those in need.

Hats off to our outgoing board members for their hard work and dedication to the chapter. It has been a pleasure working with you. Your service is appreciated! And to the newly installed board members, I want to say that we have some exciting days and months ahead of us. You are all such capable and creative women and I am proud to serve with you!

Gay Storm Oakes, our new Parliamentarian and District IX Treasurer, is awarded by the CSS if the NSDAR for Outstanding Service as Chairman, CA State Room/Friends of the California Room 2010-12.

We will begin planning for the upcoming year’s activities this summer and will keep you all posted of our progress. Please do not hesitate to voice your suggestions and concerns to any of our board members. We are here to serve the chapter and maximize your benefits as members of DAR.

Special thank you to Carol Jackson, District IX Director and State Vice Regent-Elect, for being our guest and installing our new officers.
